New businesses urged to Ready Steady Grow in Birmingham this month

Start-ups poised to move up a gear and entrepreneurs who want to set up new businesses are invited to network and share knowledge about funding opportunities at an evening event in Birmingham this month.

Ready Steady Grow 2019 takes place at PWC’s Cornwall Street offices in the city from 6 to 8.30pm. Organised by the Enterprise Investment Scheme Association (EISA) with Seedrs, the evening brings together small businesses, investors, funders, business advisers and entrepreneurs.

It’s one of a series of similar events taking place across the UK this year.

Speakers include Seedrs’ Head of Investor Services Hemant Bedarkar, knowledge transfer manager Siwan Smith and Henry Whorwood, who heads research and consultancy at Beauhurst, a platform for tracking the UK’s fastest-growing businesses.

Presentations will focus on the funding challenges facing small businesses, how to make yourself ‘investor ready’, schemes such as the one EISA offers and more.

Entrepreneurs can also make a Dragon’s Den-style five-minute pitch about their business idea to an expert panel. Judges Alex Toft of Minerva Business Angels, chartered accountant Matt O’Kane from Nexus Investments and head of sales and investor relations at Mercia EIS Funds, Dr Paul Mattick, will be offering their advice and insight.

Mark Brownridge, Director General at the EISA, said: “We’re really looking forward to what will be an excellent and insightful evening, and we’re particularly excited to be working with our new event partners, Seedrs. There’ll even be pizza – what more could you want?”

Reece Douglas of Social Plug, who attended a similar event in Manchester, said: “Being able to pitch my business in an informal setting was extremely valuable and I secured some very useful meetings afterwards. This is a fantastic event series and well worth attending – nothing beats that face-to-face contact.”
