Record number of stalls heading to popular Winter Market at stately home

ARTISANS, craftspeople and makers and producers from across the region are to gather for what is set to be a record-breaking Winter Market at a spectacular stately home.

Gift buying for the festive season will get off to a head start at the lively three-day event held at Holker Hall and Gardens, near Grange-over-Sands, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday November 1, 2 and 3.

More than 100 stallholders will be on site, some in Swiss chalet-style stalls for the seasonal extravaganza which has become one of the most popular events in the yearly calendar at the 400-year-old property.

Meanwhile, a host of additional music and entertainment - including a kid’s corner with facepainting on Friday and Saturday - will keep visitors of all ages busy.

With everything from unique finds to handmade items and clever crafts available throughout the weekend, Holker Hall manager Heather Creasey said the 2019 Winter Market was shaping up to be the best yet.

“We know visitors travel to Holker from near and far for the Winter Markets every year,” she added.

“They are a true highlight which everyone looks forward to.

“This year is set to be particularly exciting with a record number of stalls selling all sorts of unique and handmade items that will make perfect gifts, just in time for Christmas.

“There will also be tasty treats aplenty with the chance to enjoy hot drinks and a bite to eat in The Courtyard Cafe throughout.”

The line up of live music this year will include The Jazz Swing Trio and the Bread & Butter Theatre Company performing on each of the three days, with the addition of Jon Dawes of the Paper Cranes on Friday and Sunday while entertainer Andy Jester will perform on Saturday.

Historic Holker Hall and its award-winning gardens will also be open throughout.

Heather added: “With live music and what is certain to be a welcoming, festive atmosphere, we’re all looking forward to this year’s Holker Winter Markets.

“There’s lots to see and do. It’s a great day out in lovely surroundings which we know marks the start of the season of celebrations for many of our guests.”

Entry to the Winter Markets costs £3 per person, though Season Ticket holders go free. Dogs on leads are welcome in The Courtyard and grounds.
