Luxury Jamaican food brand Marshall and Brown launches range of gourmet chutneys

Award-winning Jamaican food brand, Marshall and Brown, has this month launched a brand new range of quintessential chutneys, with a Caribbean influence. The gourmet, vegan chutneys are in a range of mouth-watering flavours - and are also gluten-free.

Hot on the heels of the brand’s recent Great Taste Award, Marshall and Brown decided to release another premium product to join its exclusive portfolio. The range of chutneys feature flavours that reflect traditional British recipes but with the addition of typical Jamaican spices. Made in the UK, they make the perfect addition to any Christmas festive table, or any other time of the year. The chutneys will also take pride of place in the brand’s newly launched Luxury Caribbean Food Hamper - believed to be the first of its kind in the UK.

The range is intended as a celebration of UK and Jamaican fusion flavours and is a reflection of the heritage of founder Dr Carlton Brown. Born in the UK to Jamaican parents, he grew up watching his mother cook, which led to a love of both cuisines and a desire to create a product that is reminiscent of both cultures.

I grew up enjoying the best of British and Jamaican cuisine, which led to a desire to create products that reflected the best of both worlds. Editor’s notes

The inspiration

behind Marshall and Brown came from founder Dr Carlton Brown’s mother, who is 97, and his mother-in-law. The company is named after these two wonderful matriarchs – Olive Brown and Eugenia Marshall – who were both born on the beautiful island of Jamaica.

Dr Carlton grew up around food, family, friends, music, fun and the rich heritage of Jamaican culture. Whilst on holiday in Jamaica four years ago, he began thinking about his heritage and how he could pay homage to both his mother and mother-in-law.

The common thread was food – Jamaica is a hotbed of interesting and wonderful flavours and spices, with a rich and diverse heritage. One of the most famous traditions within Jamaica is to jerk, and as both his mother and mother-in-law were passionate cooks, it became the obvious choice that he wanted to bring something contemporary to the market.

The inspiration behind Marshall and Brown came from Dr Carlton Brown’s mother, who is 97, and his mother-in-law. The company is named after these two wonderful matriarchs – Olive Brown and Eugenia Marshall – who were both born on the beautiful island of Jamaica.
