Latest Research Reveals : Changing UK demographics seeking flexible working.

New research carried out by The Find Your Flex Group, the UK’s leading flexible working job platform, found that 62% of people seeking flexible working opportunities through the platform are without children or have children who have left home.

• Only 8% of Find Your Flex respondents has a child under the age of 2 and a further 8% have kids aged 3-5 and benefits from 30 hours free childcare

• 12% have their youngest child in primary education aged 6-11

• 1 in 5 job seekers are from the LGBTQ community

• 1 in 10 have a disability

• Large increase in number of male job seekers looking for flexible roles - up to 52% in some areas

• Between December 2020 and end of January 2021 - 11% increase in number of White job seekers with speculation that Positive Discrimination is also happening within Redundancies as well as within New Hires.

The research, based on over 10,000 responses indicates that attitudes to flexible working are continuing to change rapidly. By the end of January 2021, only 8% of Find Your Flex respondents has a child under the age of 2 and benefits from 30 hours free childcare and a further 12% has at least one child in primary education. Furthermore 1 in 5 job seekers are from the LGBTQ community and more than 1 in 10 has a disability.

The research also highlighted an ongoing increase in men seeking flexible working, up to 52% in some areas of the UK.

CEO and Founder Cheney Hamilton commented: “These findings fly in the face of popular belief that only parents of young children are looking for flexible contracts. More and more job seekers are looking for flexible roles and not just parents with young families. We have seen a huge increase in expectations from Gen Z for flexible working as a lifestyle choice”

She added: “Covid19 has been incredibly effective at highlighting the need for flexibility but has also changed the way that many people intend to work in the future. It’s becoming increasingly evident that in order to bring about societal change, flexible working practice must be supported by Government policy. We need a new understanding about what flexible working is and we need employers to embrace flexible working arrangements beyond home working, to give opportunity and choice to all”
