One of UK’s most unique racecourses launches first ever Ladies Night

A RACECOURSE which lies just metres away from one of the UK’s culinary capitals has launched its first ever Ladies Night

Cartmel Racecourse will welcome thousands of people through its gates for the only evening meeting of its 2019 schedule which takes place on May 29.

While the event is open to all, ladies are being encouraged to join their friends and dress to the nines for an evening of fun and excitement.

There will be a special prize worth more than £1,000 for best-dressed lady, while racegoers will have the opportunity to spend the evening in the luxurious surroundings of Rogan at the Races, a pop-up glass-fronted restaurant set by the final furlong with Michelin-starred food served by chef Simon Rogan’s talented team.

Racecourse director Steve Cooper (picture attached), said: “We are really excited about this year’s Ladies Night. It will be the first time we have held an event of this nature and we are really looking forward to welcoming racegoers on the day.

“We are always looking to add something new to our offering and with beautiful surroundings, great racing action on offer, the funfair, party tents and some amazing corporate hospitality options to take advantage of, it promises to be a fantastic night.”

Tickets for the newly-revamped Louis Roederer restaurant are selling well, while racegoers who want an extra special experience, or companies wishing to treat their staff or clients, are snapping up tickets for Rogan at the Races.

The first of seven races is expected to get under way at 5pm, with the last race reaching the final furlong around 8.30pm.

The usual funfair will be in full swing for youngsters to enjoy, while as ever, barbecues and picnickers are welcome. Tickets are just £5 for the Course Enclosure and £10 for the Paddock Enclosure.

Cartmel racecourse lies just outside of Cartmel Village centre which has won a reputation as one of the UK's best-loved foodie hotspots. The Michelin-starred restaurants L’Enclume and Rogan & Co along with a selection of charming shops and pubs make up the village centre.

There are nine meetings at Cartmel Racecourse from May to August, with plenty of highlights in the calendar. On Friday June 28, one of the biggest names in global pop music will take to the stage when Sir Cliff Richard plays one of just three UK gigs at the racecourse.

The gates of the racecourse open for the first time as the Whit holiday meeting gets under way on Saturday May 25. There is a subsequent meeting on Whit bank holiday Monday, the 27th, and then Ladies Night rolls around on the evening of May 29.

Editor’s notes

Cartmel Racecourse stages National Hunt (jump) racing. There are nine fixtures in the Cartmel racing calendar, commencing on the Whit Holiday weekend in May and running through the August Bank Holiday weekend. Cartmel’s most valuable race, the Cumbria Crystal Cup, is staged during the July meeting.

Racecourse guests can luxuriate in the Louis Roederer restaurant. Located on the first floor of the Grandstand (within the Paddock enclosure), the restaurant has a new look for 2019. With its own private viewing balcony, this restaurant boasts panoramic views of the racecourse, finishing line and parade ring,

For the 2019 race season, the racecourse has announced an exciting new collaboration with Rogan & Co, Simon Rogan’s Cartmel-based Michelin-starred neighbourhood restaurant. Rogan & Co at Cartmel Races will be launched as an exclusive new venue for the 2019 racing season. It will combine the culinary excellence of Rogan & Co with the first trackside hospitality offering at the Racecourse, taking the form of a stylish glass-fronted marquee and garden terrace overlooking the famous finishing straight.

The racecourse is just minutes from the village of Cartmel, which is situated at the southern end of the Lake District Peninsula, close to both the shores of Morecambe Bay and to Windermere.
