Stunning views will complement great food as pub invests in expansion

A PUB which enjoys one of the most commanding positions off the promenade of a south lakes town is set to invest in an extensive outdoor revamp.

The Commodore, in Grange-Over-Sands, has served locals and tourists for years, accommodating thousands of people in its beer garden over the spring and summer months.

Now bosses have been given the go-ahead for a major investment in the popular pub’s balcony, which offers guests stunning views across Morecambe Bay.

Work on an expansion of the existing structure will begin in the coming weeks - with it set to open in time for summer.

Kirsty Mackenzie is a director of Lakeland Inns, the family-run company which owns The Commodore.

She said: “We can’t wait for work to be completed and to start welcoming guests to the new terrace at The Commodore.

“The views are magnificent and we feel sure that local residents and visitors alike will really enjoy the dining experience. Our hope is that the terrace will attract more people to Grange and in turn give the local economy a boost.”

There will be up to 12 tables on the terrace, which will be fitted with heaters to ensure it can be used into the evening.

Customers will also be provided with blankets if they wish, so they can enjoy a cosy drink or bite to eat as the sun goes down.

All work will be carried out by local contractors - something both Kirsty and Scott were keen to ensure.

“We want to support the local economy whenever we can,” said Kirsty. The Commodore is a pub which - while very welcoming to tourists and visitors to Grange, is a real local and we wanted to ensure we awarded the work to a contractor from the area.”

The five-figure investment in the terrace is the latest in a series of projects on the part of Lakeland Inns. The Sun in Ulverston has had more than £300,000 ploughed into it in the last four years, while Stringers Brewery in Ulverston - also a part of the Lakeland Inns family - has been the beneficiary of £50k in investment since it was bought last year.
