Warwickshire businesses pivot to help overcome pandemic woes

The COVID-19 outbreak has been tough for us all and many businesses have had to completely change the way they operate. Two businesses in Warwickshire explain created their own special ways of giving back.

Lee Corden runs a graphic design agency with his business partner, Jason. Twentytwo Digital has transitioned from their usual wide range of design and marketing services to turning around websites with ecommerce facilities in just 24 hours. One of their clients would normally sell pizzas via a mobile catering facility at events and with bookings falling off a cliff edge, he needed to become a pizza delivery service which Twentytwo Digital delivered without delay.

“This is a challenging time for everyone – us included,” Lee said. “What we can do, however, is use our expertise to help our clients adapt so they can continue generating an income. To be able to shine some light into other people’s lives is proving very satisfying.”

Based in the historic Coventry Canal Warehouse, Twentytwo Digital was created as Lee and Jason merged their graphic design and marketing agencies in 2015. Utilising both of their skillsets, the creative agency works with clients on building brand awareness, exploring a new marketing approach or reviewing online and offline presence. The support they are giving allows other businesses to survive and, in some cases, thrive during the current situation.

Also based in Warwickshire is Richard Gunton and his tailoring business, Richard George Tailoring. After hearing about the shortage in personal protective equipment (PPE), Richard quickly consulted his manufacturer to see what they could do to help. Since then, the factory has been producing in excess of 2,000 gowns a week.

“Thankfully my workshop has the capabilities to produce these numbers to do our bit to support the NHS,” says Richard.” It’s evident that there is a significant shortage of PPE and having the chance to help was definitely the right thing to do. It’s not about financial gain, it’s about pulling together to ensure the NHS is in a position to do what they do best.”

Both of these changes have been made possible due to advice they’ve received from their business coach, Kevin Riley. Since the pandemic hit, Kevin and his business coaching firm, ActionCOACH Warwick, has been offering 15 hours of free coaching a week. In total, he has gifted 65 coaching sessions and given 61 hours of free advice. Kevin and his team have worked with 239 business owners, ranging from solopreneurs to large employers with 50-plus staff.

95% of businesses Kevin works with have been negatively affected by COVID-19, but they have all been making positive changes to ensure they survive the crisis through their coaching sessions.

“Collaboration is what’s needed in times like these – by coming together, we have a better chance of surviving the crisis. As a business growth specialist, I’m in a privileged position to share my advice with those needing some guidance in such uncertain times. Just a little support or direction is creating some truly special results across our region,” said Kevin.
