We are in a golden age of cycling, according to London-based business Active Commuting.
While the Tour de France is coming to an end, its impact and legacy looks set to continue. Success for British riders, in this year’s race and in previous races, shows the British dominance of the sport.
Andrew Rechten, Founder of Active Commuting, said: “We really are in a golden age of cycling, in terms of both the sport itself and the investment being put into cycle lanes and schemes.”
Andrew and his team feel there is a much larger opportunity to take advantage of though. They point to a hesitation among commuters to switch from the daily grind of the underground to their two wheels.
Andrew added: ““The main barriers to active travel is the lack of showers, lockers and secure bike parking at work, so we set out to provide a solution to all three.”
Active Commuting, which started trading in July 2016, works with employers to provide pods on car parks and other land.
Since launching the business, Andrew has worked with organisations including St Helier University Hospital, Epsom General Hospital and GE Healthcare Ltd.
According to Andrew and his team, cycling to work provides the early-morning endorphin rush that workers need. “We have conceived fresh, modern solutions that can be adopted by any business,” says Andrew.
