It's not every day that we hear a good news story at the moment. However, in this era of austerity, here's a ray of sunlight.

New startup business, Allegro Optical Opticians are growing, having opened the doors of their new practice in Meltham in March this year. Allegro Optical is pleased to announce that optometrist Claire Wightman BSc (Hons) MCOptom, has joined their team. Having spent twenty years working as an optometrist in Barnsley Claire brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the team.

The business provides professional and affordable eye care to the local community, With prices starting at £49.99 for two pairs of spectacles. With private eye tests at £17:50 and a full NHS provision their offering has quickly gained traction. In addition to providing individual eye care locally, Allegro Optical specialise in helping older musicians who are struggling to read their music.

The business has already employed two new members of staff since launching and is creating a strong client base both locally and abroad.

Managing Director and Dispensing Optician Sheryl Doe said "With the business performing so well we took the decision to invite another Optometrist to join our growing team. Claire is the perfect addition and she is already proving popular with our clients."

Allegro Optical began thanks to an entrepreneurial optical duo, inspired by a love of music, after developing a unique range of glasses and spectacle lenses dedicated to prolonging musical careers.

Sheryl Doe’s and Stephen Tighe’s ambition was brought into focus when they opened Allegro Optical in Meltham, near Huddersfield and Holmfirth in March this year.

Ms Wightman joins the present team of optometrists Sara Ackroyd and Stephen Haigh in their Station Street practice in Meltham, near Huddersfield and Holmfirth.

About Allegro Optical

Allegro Optical is a new startup optician with a difference. Unlike many of the large optical chain stores, our business is mostly staffed by people over 40 years of age. By employing older staff we have a wealth of experience to call on. We feel it is this wide experience which gives our clients a first-class experience and it also means that our staff can empathise and often understand from their own experience, the varied eye conditions we frequently see. Our target client is the older person who feels rushed or sometimes overwhelmed when using one of a large number of optical chains out there. We offer a more personal and less pressurised environment to the "big boys". As far as we know we are the only opticians in the world to specialise in helping older musicians with their vision and we have a range of lenses that we have developed especially for the older musician. We have been lucky enough to have clients travel from all over the world to use our service and we have been successful in both enhancing and extending our clients playing and performing careers.
