The state of Application Support Managed Services in the UK report
In late 2020 Amdaris commissioned an independent survey of 200 CTO/CIOs and senior IT decision-makers from a broad cross-section of UK businesses ranging from retail, financial services, and healthcare to human resources, engineering, and construction to understand the state of Application Support Managed Services (ASMS) in the UK
The findings form the basis of our report, which reveals:
• the three stages of maturity: starting out, mid-maturity and cutting-edge
• why maturity evolution is important in terms of innovation and agility
• what’s driving ASMS maturity and how and where it is being facilitated
• the impact of both in-house support and outsourcing approaches
• the relationship between ASMS maturity and off-shore outsourcing.
In the report we discovered:
1. When it comes to Application Support Managed Services, however, there is no clear path for organisations to follow.
As a result, many organisations start their journey but fail to progress. Their systems and processes remainimmature and they fail to achieve and deliver.
2. The higher the maturity the greater the focus on innovation. Cutting-edge companies spend more time developing new apps, which gives them a competitive advantage.
3. Size matters, but less than you think. You don’t have to be the biggest business to have the most mature approach to ASMS.
4. ASMS is not a wine – maturity doesn’t necessarily come with age. Young organisations can be just as committed to ASMS as established businesses, with many reaching mid-maturity in under two years.
5. Organisations that do things in-house are less likely to achieve cutting-edge maturity. Those that outsource can fast-track maturity.
Here are the 12 key findings of the survey:
1. The higher their ASMS maturity, the freer businesses are to innovate.
2. Mature organisations benefit from more flexible approaches.
3. People and service-driven organisations are leading the maturity stakes.
4. The biggest businesses aren’t necessarily the most mature.
5. ASMS maturity doesn’t necessarily come with age.
6. Digital transformation is the most powerful driver for ALL businesses.
7. Organisations that outsource can fast-track maturity.
8. In-house support concerns are the same whatever the level of ASMS maturity.
9. ASMS outsourcing is used, to some degree, by the majority of organisations.
10. Older businesses are most likely to far-shore ASMS,and cutting-edge to near-shore.
11. Reasons to outsource are dependent on ASMS maturity.
12. Outsourcing carries no greater risk than in-house.
