“I set up my business to help children and young people become masters of their brain, rather than slaves to their emotions” says former teacher Andrea Chatten

A former teachers recent business venture, Unravel, and her series of books, are part of her wider mission to support children and young people. She is now practicing with her team of expert Children's Emotional & Behavioral psychologists and practitioners.

Andrea Chatten believes there is currently a huge gap between services provided at schools and mental health services which are aimed at supporting children and young people.

Andrea, Founder of Unravel, said: “We are passionate about helping children learn essential strategies to manage their brains and emotions at difficult times.

“I believe our business fills the void between current services provided by Educational Psychology and Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), which cannot meet demand.”

Having worked with vulnerable and challenging children, young people and their families for almost 30 years across the Sheffield City Region and beyond, Andrea is putting her experience to good use.

She is the author of the ‘The Blinks’, a series of children’s books launched in 2015, which are magical stories for the over sevens with an important underlying message.

She added: “Each book is entwined with strategies for helping with children’s emotional and behavioural development.”

The books are also accompanied by supportive booklets, which act as reference manuals for parents, carers and teachers, explaining in more detail the ‘why’ behind interventions The Blinks characters use to support children.

The team at Unravel also work within schools and with families privately.

Notes to editors:

The manuals also provide information on psychological approaches, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and also explain the impact that worry, anger, low self-esteem and other issues can have on emotional development.

Each section provides simple activities which can be used as talking points between parents or carers and children.
