Major high street fashion brands just didn't do it for winning copywriter
University of Nottingham American Studies graduate Annabelle Teale from Wakefield, West Yorkshire spent six years at the heart of brands that would be the envy of most fashionable twenty year olds, but opted for freelancing just 9 months ago, and walked away with the Creative Copy Award at the celebrated YunoJuno Freelancer awards in London on 22 November.
Time with Michael Kors, Pandora Jewellery, Ted Baker, Crew Clothing Company and City Pantry was not enough for Annabelle Teale, who is now based in Barnet, North London.
“I didn’t like the values in mainstream employment,” she says, “and was attracted by an assignment I saw posted on YunoJuno. That was enough for me to make the move into the world of freelancing, moving away from marketing roles to solely focus on copywriting, and winning the Creative Copy category in this year’s awards has been amazing.”
Citing the skills she learned at university in writing and scripting compelling essay and argument copy in history and politics as what has now put her at the top of the class in the copywriting field, she said, “Freelancing has enabled me to concentrate on the area that I am really good at, and the support provided by YunoJuno in accessing assignments, and managing invoicing has been instrumental in my success. I can now set, and work to my own values, which in winning the award are clearly working!”
YunoJuno founder Shib Mathew added his own congratulations. “Annabelle has made a big impression in the freelancer world very quickly. YunoJuno are supporting more and more people who are choosing to opt for the flexibility and variety of freelancing, and Annabelle is a prime role model of proving that working for big brands is not always the most satisfying way of building a career. She thoroughly deserves this year’s Creative Copy Award and I congratulate her.”
