Relaunch of British Modest Fashion Brand AWRA

‘Modest fashion’ may once have been associated with only women of faith, but one pioneering British fashion company is on a mission to change the way the world sees more conservative clothing. Artist and designer Nurjan is relaunching AWRA to showcase the incredible beauty and diversity of modest clothing, and her latest collection is already proving popular with modestly dressed women around the world.

Nurjan is part of a growing trend for stylish yet modest clothing, with top American fashion model Halima Aden taking to the catwalk in a range of modest outfits. Aden has also graced the covers of British Vogue, Vogue Arabia and Allure magazines, creating a platform for muslim women in hijab within mainstream fashion.

Speaking about the creation of AWRA, Nurjan says: “There has long been a stigma attached to modest clothing and it’s often been labelled as boring or ‘frumpy’. With AWRA, I wanted to change that. As a British Muslim woman, I saw that there was a gap in the market for modest but stylish clothing and so I began designing my own.

“I want to offer other modest dressers the option of stylish modest clothes, in a range of interesting fabrics, something new and different to what is currently offered. Clothes are - and should be -empowering. Long dresses, loose fits and high-necked tops can all be as urban and chic as skimpier outfits, and I believe my latest collection proves this.”

As well as designing her own fashionable clothing, Nurjan also has a successful career as an artist, with her works having been sold at both Sotheby’s and Bonhams. Inspired by her Islamic art, Nurjan brings the same level of attention to detail and innate appreciation of beauty to her range of clothing. Her latest collection is now available online through the AWRA website www.awra.co

About AWRA

Based in London, online modest-fashion company AWRA, was was founded in 2012 by British artist Nurjan - a humble means to fund her passion in the Arts. The artist had already successfully auctioned her art in Sotheby's and Bonhams, exhibited and designed for Royalty and has sold her work to well-known faces and CEO’s. AWRA has since grown globally into a popular online destination for modest dressers. The brand strives to produce all garments ethically and fairly throughout the design and manufacturing process, a topic Nurjan believes passionately in. “My target audience is young Muslim women, however that doesn’t mean others are not welcome to shop online too. I welcome everyone to shop online with my brand, modest fashion is for everyone and that’s the beauty of the movement. We offer a style of clothing, mostly an urban, trendy style I would say, that I’m sure women from all backgrounds & faiths would appreciate.” - Nurjan
