Saving bees is more critical than we realise. But we do care with 1.4 million wildflower seeds and a stampede to invest in the future of bees.

The Centre for Ecology and Hydration research this week highlighted the declining trend in bees in the country. This built on research from Germany showing a similar picture. Whilst crop pollinators are on the increase, a third of wild bee species have declined over the past 30 years which, according to Dr Gary Powney at the CEH, threatens ‘ the long-term food security for our country.”

But we do really care says ecology and bee friendly business Bee Good founder Simon Cavill. ‘The reason for the decline is very obvious. Simply we have been damaging the natural habitats of the bees. But at Bee Good we are seeing a positive move to reverse things. With every order we send out native wildflower seeds, currently running at over 1.4 million seeds, to attract the pollinators back to our gardens.’

Moreover though the Hampshire based business has seen a remarkable reaction to its invitation for those who care to be part of Bee Good and invest their own money in making a change.

Having launched a crowd funding campaign on Crowdcube this month, aimed at raising £100,000 to boost the business, within just 9 days the target was reached and the money is still coming in.

‘The response has been remarkable,’ says Cavill. ‘We expected interest, but what we have seen is a clear movement from people who care about the importance of bees and their future. This has not just come from the UK, but globally, with investors coming from 14 different countries. With the extra cash flow and increased sales, our target is to hit 2 million seeds by the end of this year. More flowers, more bees and more food security.’
