Family food business based in West Wales is in the regional finals of the Great British Entrepreneur Awards.

After garnering 10 awards at the Women’s Wine and Spirits Awards 2020 (WWSA) and 21 awards at the Sommelier Wine Awards 2020 (SWA) with Hungarian wines and one of the directors, Monika Gyenes, having been shortlisted for the Online Specialist Buyer Award 2020, the winning run continues. Wales based business Best of Hungary has been shortlisted in the Food & Drink Entrepreneur category at the Regional Finals of the Great British Entrepreneur Awards.

Founded in 2013, the Great British Entrepreneur Awards acknowledges the hard work and inspiring stories of entrepreneurs and businesses in the United Kingdom. The Awards have celebrated some outstanding entrepreneurs who have gone on to become household names.

Founder of the Great British Entrepreneur Awards, Francesca James, said: “Given what we’ve seen over the past few months, the 2020 edition of the Great British Entrepreneur Awards is arguably the most important. Now, more than ever, it’s vital that we celebrate the achievements of the country’s entrepreneurs and their determination in the face of such adversity. “So many entrepreneurs will have been fighting to keep their business afloat over the past few months, and indeed will be over the coming months. That’s exactly why we launched the Pivot category; to recognise those that have managed to adapt and thrive throughout this period.

Best of Hungary was founded in 2016 by Monika Gyenes, a dentist, and her son, Zoltán, an economist, from their adoptive hometown of Aberystwyth, West Wales. Originating from the Hungarian Great Plains, Monika spotted a gap in the UK market for gourmet Hungarian products and promptly plugged it, sourcing the finest, seriously high-end products from some of Hungary’s most revered and lauded specialist producers. Best of Hungary sell directly to the public through www.bestofhungary.co.uk; which has quickly grown into a digital shop window for 63 wines by 23 winemakers and 140 food products by 17 producers. They also supply wholesale to delicatessens, independent wine merchants and the on-trade, including Michelin Star restaurants.

“The status of Hungarian fine food and wine in the UK at the moment is firmly one of untapped potential.” says Monika Gyenes, founder of Best of Hungary. “It is a country with a thousand years of traditions, expertise and know-how, a rich terroir and the ideal climate for growing food full of flavour. Becoming finalist is further proof that Hungary has a lot to offer to British customers and we are very proud to represent the best that our homeland has to offer in our new adopted home.”
