Offering empty accommodation for those in desperate need

Bethnal&Bec Luxury Rural Retreats vowed that after the last Lockdown, if there was another, they would try to help their community by opening their doors to local charities offering refuge to those experiencing domestic abuse or violence.

Vicky Saynor of Bethnal&Bec said “In the first lockdown we spent the majority of time really not knowing what to do! We carried out essential maintenance and upgrades we’d wanted to do for a while. In November we felt we couldn’t commit to anything as it was such a short time closing. But I vowed that if we had another lockdown, this time we would use our accommodation for those in need. Specifically those fleeing Domestic Abuse”

Bethnal&Bec also offer free accommodation to those affected by cancer after Vicky's Breast Cancer diagnosis in November 2019, and already work with various charities.

However, with prior experience of being in a coercive, abusive relationship, Vicky felt that this lockdown they needed to help more. They are currently working with charities that need very short-term accommodation until refuges or further sustainable housing can be found for those fleeing

Notes to Editors

We are available for comment and are really interested in trying to get this idea 'out there' for other accommodation owners

tonight we shared a post on Instagram (12.4k following). Within hours we have over 310 likes, and 74+ comments. Plus offers of help from cooking meals, to baking brownies for anyone that stays to DA therapy. Obviously all for free. What a lovely idea and positive story for Lockdown 3

Our whole family will be involved in this, from helping to clean, to understanding DA and its impact on lives
