Local healthcare provider proud to show support for Alzheimer's Awareness Month

Carers Elite, a Norfolk-based organisation providing support both at home and in the community, believes that September’s World Alzheimer's Month provided the perfect opportunity to promote the importance of good care, raise awareness of Alzheimer's, and understand the power of talking about the disease.

World Alzheimer's Month is an international campaign that aims to improve awareness of Alzheimer's Disease - a progressive brain disorder which can increase the risk of dementia in adults and remove the stigma attached to neurological conditions such as this. It is estimated that Alzheimer's affects more than 46 million people across the world, with more than 131 million cases expected to be diagnosed by 2050.

"Two-thirds of people across the globe believe that Alzheimer's is pushed under the rug, that it's seen as a 'dirty' subject, and that's something we hope to change following our involvement and support for World Alzheimer's Month," says Jonathon Lofthouse, Owner of Carers Elite.

"Having worked with people with Alzheimer's for many years, both at in the community and in care homes, we've seen first hand how there's still a great deal about Alzheimer's that patients and their families don't understand, and that's because we never really talk about it.

"By talking more about this disease and raising awareness, we really can improve the quality of life for the 850,000 people in the UK living with Alzheimer’s.”

Carers Elite strives to provide the highest quality care with residential and nursing settings, community care homes, hospices, and private hospitals. The passionate team offer a wide range of services to support those in need, and their families, through respite care, financial assistance, 24/7 care packages, and domestic support.

Now in its 8th year, World Alzheimer's Month ran throughout September 2019 and, alongside World Alzheimer's Day on 21st September, aims to raise awareness of the disease and improve quality of life for those affected.
