It’s a Cause not a Course – E Learning with a difference.

During the COVID-19 pandemic there has been a substantial rise in e-learning. Some of it for fun, some of it to pass the time and some of it to further the development and careers of those hoping to return to their jobs. The Compassionate Leadership Academy (CLA) is an online course that has a greater ambition – we want to change cultures, make compassion part of everyday life, not single acts of altruism but a philosophy by which we live.

In 2014, Manley Hopkinson published the highly acclaimed book, Compassionate Leadership, which was endorsed by the Dalia Lama. In fact it is the definition of compassion by the Dalia Lama which is the starting point and focus of The Compassionate Leadership Academy. Before any leader can successfully wield leadership tools, they need to heighten their own awareness, emotional intelligence and understanding. The greatest leadership impact requires a strong degree of empathy, leading to conscious positive action. This, in essence, is Compassion, largely defined by the Dalai Lama as: Empathy with Positive Action.

The CLA is an incredibly exciting and far reaching new way of online learning. Of spreading the word on compassionate leadership. Of inspiring more people across the globe to become, not just compassionate leaders, but to actively adopt the philosophy of compassion.

Manley Hopkinson

Manley combines his unique lessons in leadership and teamwork, drawn from his extraordinary stories of adventures in the Navy, the Hong Kong Police, across oceans (Round the World sailor) and ice (North Pole explorer) and his extensive experience as a Board member and advisor to several international businesses. Manley’s philosophies are born from my desire to fulfil; achieve, to accomplish; not on my own, but also to the benefit of the people around me. I have a strong sense of justice and believe in balancing the needs of the economy, our society and the environment.

I understand the values of Compassionate Leadership to be Awareness, Courage, Confidence, Joy and Compassion; being aware of yourself & others, having the courage to be true to yourself and act to that truth, the confidence to believe in yourself & others and be decisive, to intrinsically enjoy the journey and not focus just on the extrinsic destination.
