Autumn is the 'Perfect Time to Get Creative' Says Local Chef

With Autumn right around the corner, one British chef is urging everyone to don their aprons and fire up the burners, using the season as a good excuse to try new recipes and make the most of fresh, locally-grown produce. Laura Vaughan, Owner of personal cookery tuition organisation Cook From Scratch, believes that there has never been a better time to get creative in the kitchen and branch out, trying out a range of hearty Autumn recipe ideas.

Amongst the Autumn recipe ideas promoted by Vaughan is Cook From Scratch's very own take on classic butternut squash and sweet potato soup, using unusual yet complementary ingredients such as sugar and soy sauce to add a sweet and salty touch to the traditional savoury dish. Vaughan's collection of Autumn recipes focus on warming, filling dishes as the nights begin to draw in, highlighting healthier alternatives to heavier British comfort foods.

"With the leaves beginning to drop, and the days becoming colder, more and more of us are starting to edge away from the crisp and refreshing salads and are looking for something a little more warming and comforting," says Vaughan.

"Autumn is definitely one of my favourite times of year from a culinary perspective because there are so many amazing recipes that really work on cold, dark nights, like soups, stews, and roasts, and I personally think that it's just the perfect time to get creative and try out recipes that you've never really attempted before".

Cook From Scratch offers personal, at-home tuition for anyone who wants to build, develop, or expand their skills in the kitchen. Vaughan, a qualified chef, tutor, and nutrition advisor, works with everyone from complete beginners through to experienced cooks, sharing new recipes, helping them to improve their technique, and making them more confident in kitchen environments. Vaughan hopes to give everyone the skills they need to cook great food, whatever the season.
