Local Chef Proud to Join British Food Fortnight Celebrations

A local chef, tutor, and nutrition advisor is joining in the celebrations and festivities as British Food Fortnight continues. Laura Vaughan, Owner of Cook From Scratch, offers at-home, personal cooking tuition for anyone wanting to develop their skills in the kitchen, and believes that the event is the perfect time to experience the smells, tastes, and textures of British cuisine, and to try out new recipes and learn some new cooking techniques.

In preparation for the big event, Vaughan has been encouraging everyone from complete beginners to experienced cooks to try whipping up a warming, hearty bowl of butternut squash and sweet potato soup. The recipe makes excellent use of local produce and classic British ingredients that are in season and ready for harvest.

"As a chef, there's nothing I love more than sampling new flavours and exotic tastes, but there's just something about good old British cuisine that simply can't be beat!" laughs Vaughan.

"With so many global offerings around now, it's becoming easier and easier to overlook the beauty of British food, which is why events such as British Food Fortnight are so important; they make us all pause, and take a look at the great flavours that are all around us."

British Food Fortnight was launched in 2002 by Love British Food and has fast become the largest nationwide celebration of British cuisine.

Cook From Scratch is joining many other prolific organisations in showing support for the event, including Wembley Stadium, the BBC, The National Trust, and Buckingham Palace.

British Food Fortnight started on 21 September and ends on 6 October 2019, following a year-long campaign run by Love British Food to raise awareness of the importance of buying locally to support the UK economy.
