Meet Cynthia Stroud: Cake Maker to the BRITs and founder of the UKs first curly wig charity

Sassy entrepreneur, Cynthia Stroud OBE, is a multi-award winning cake designer, passionate charity worker supporting children with hair loss, feeding local families through sales of her jams, and empowering girls. She also finds time to be a TV food Judge on the Food Network and Channel 4, and one of the four experts on BBC2’s Sweetmakers. As founder of the non-profit Curly Wigs For Kids, she has just been recognised by the Great British Entrepreneur Awards as a finalist in the Disruptor of the Year category.

Curly Wigs for Kids is the UK’s first curly/kinky hair non-profit dedicated to providing free human hair wigs to children. Cynthia founded the charity, Curly Wigs for Kids, after discovering that no-one would take her son’s beautiful long, curly afro hair to turn it into a wig for children. Many children lose their hair after suffering illness, medical treatment, or being in an accident and now can be gifted a UK-produced real hair curly wig.

“Cancer, alopecia, hair loss, is no respecter of hair type and when a child’s hair disappears, through no fault of their own, we don't want them to be forced to wear a wig made from a different hair type to what they are used to due to lack of choice. This is why I founded Curly Wigs for Kids and why I encourage anyone with kinky/curly hair to send me their hair and I welcome any child who needs it to apply for one of our wigs." Cynthia explained.

"I’m excited to be a finalist in the Great British Entrepreneur Awards as it gives me the opportunity to shout from the rooftops about this amazing opportunity to help give children back their confidence and their identity.”

Cynthia has already won multiple, high profile awards including Best Wedding Cake Designer for London & South East and Best Cake Maker in British Wedding Awards. She has held the annual contract of Official Cake Supplier to The BRIT awards for the past 9 years, and is the resident Cake Maker to Queen Charlotte Debutante Ball since 2015 catering to the crème de la crème of society.
