10 Things You Need to Get Your Bike Ready for Spring

Spring has sprung and the clocks are going forward on 27th March! This can mean only one thing – it’s time to get that bike back out of the shed or wherever it’s been hiding over winter. Now that the weather is a little warmer and the sun is out, let’s get back on the bike. Before that first ride though, it’s important to make sure that you and your bike are ready to go.

For lots of us, the winter weather has meant that our bikes have been stuck indoors, but now it’s time to get back in the saddle we need to get back to our biking best.”

At cycleGuard, we’ve been protecting cyclists up and down the UK for over 20 years and we’re as excited to get back into the saddle as you are. They have put together essential tips to check before you get back on the bike.

First thing’s first, make sure that you tighten your bike seat before you get riding again. A loose bike seat isn’t just uncomfortable, but it can also cause trouble when you’re out on your bike. If your seat cover has been worn out after not being used in a while, then replace it as soon as you can and avoid riding in discomfort.

Do your bike lights work? What about your reflectors? You’ll need to make sure that all of the safety equipment is working correctly on your bike before you head out. Remember that in the UK, it’s illegal to ride your bike on a public road without lights after sunset.

Also, make sure to get a check-up. Much like you would do with your car, you can book your bike in for a service if it hasn’t been used over winter. Take your bike down to your local bike shop where a professional can assess it and repair your bike back to racing shape.

Head of Marketing at cycleGuard, Alex Bennett said: “We’ll all be doing a bit of Spring cleaning in the coming weeks, but it’s worth making sure that our bikes also get looked after.

cycleGuard believes it is important to know how to get your bike ready for that first bike ride of the season.
