In light of the recent, disturbing BBC documentary ‘Meat: a threat to our planet’ presented by Liz Bonnin – could becoming a DEMY be part of the solution?

The documentary graphically shows the horrendous effect of producing and consuming meat is having on the planet; which begs the question: could becoming a DEMY be part of the solution?

A DEMY is a person who doesn't want to eat animal mammals for ethical, health or environmental reasons, but find it just too difficult to become a vegan or vegetarian.

In the documentary Liz Bonnin declared that the meat industry produces more greenhouse gases than the running of our transport systems - cars, planes, freight, ships - combined. That’s a shocking statement!

The documentary can still be seen on BBC iPlayer:

The documentary dramatically points the finger at intense farming of cows and pigs as being the main culprit for contributing to global warming and the destruction of the planet, so becoming a DEMY and not eating cows and pigs could really help save the planet.

Although DEMIES don’t eat animal mammals, they eat all other types of foods. Including: fruit and vegetables; poultry and fish; eggs and diary; grains, nuts, and pulses. So, when one thinks of all the different meals one can have, it’s easy to understand that it’s no real sacrifice to become a DEMY.

Bob Hylton, founder of The DEMIES Organisation, said “After watching that brilliant but disturbing documentary, I think we all now understand the issues caused by our global demand for red meat - but I believe that people over a certain age could find it very difficult to change the habits of a life time and become a vegan or vegetarian; whereas adjusting to become a DEMY is relatively easy – and achieves the same ethical, health and environmental benefits.”

The Organisation has a video: ‘DEMIES don’t Eat Mammals’ which explains why it is no real sacrifice becoming a DEMY.
