Watford entrepreneur wins exceptional travel and hospitality award at the 21st century icon awards
Watford-based entrepreneur Vivek Chadha has been recognised for his outstanding achievements in the hospitality industry at the 21st Century Icon awards, where he received the Exceptional Travel and Hospitality award.
Chadha is regarded as one of the rising stars in the arena of commercial property development in the UK, with hotels and residential property in his portfolio, alongside commercial property.
The criteria for the award specified that the winner must demonstrate extraordinary flair in the travel, food and hospitality industry. The individual was also required to display a focus on catalysts for change, the economy, enabling technology, platforms and customer mindsets.
The win caps off a successful 2017 for Vivek, who was also awarded the Entrepreneur of the Year award for the London and South region at the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year awards earlier last year.
The businessman - aged only 30 - has spearheaded the growth of hotel development company Nine Group, which over the last two years has become one of the fastest private hotel companies in the UK. The company employs over 800 people and has acquired and developed 18 hotels over the past six years. Following his success in the UK, Chadha is now looking into continental Europe for further hotel acquisitions.
Chadha has faced some considerable challenges in securing his success, from establishing the business during a period of recession to planning and achieving continued growth in the face of Brexit.
Hosted by Tarun Ghulati and Preeti Rana of Squared Watermelon Ltd and held on 25th November at the InterContinental London Park Lane, the awards celebrated the success of the next generation.
More than 250 individuals attended the awards, including CEOs, entrepreneurs, creators of wealth and professionals.
A total of 47 nominees from 14 countries were carefully selected based on research, personal meetings and the submission of nomination papers. The exceptional judging panel was chaired by The Rt. Hon The Baroness Usha Prashar, member of the House of Lords and deputy chairman of the British Council.
Judges included Hugo van Vredenburch, former partner and managing director of Goldman Sachs and David Sayer, vice chairman of financial services of KPMG.
Upon the announcement of his win, Vivek Chadha said:
‘I am delighted to receive the coveted 21st Century Icon award for Exceptional Travel and Hospitality, recognised by such an esteemed panel of judges. I feel the award is the perfect finish to a very successful year for Nine Group and I look forward to seeing what we can achieve in 2018.’
