40 teams, 280 Surveyors compete for the ultimate prize - The Surveyors Cup 2019
The construction industry came out in force to take part in the Surveyors Cup 2019. On June 21st the Downwell Group hosted the biggest and best five a side tournament for the construction industry.
The Downwell Group provide Demolition, Enabling Works, Environmental and Scaffolding Services to the industry.

After last years World Cup version of the tournament it was back to normal with teams competing as their companies rather than countries. An incredible 40 teams took to the field. Once again Ex West Ham Captain Alvin Martin was on hand to give advice to the teams and act as MC for the day.

Artelia, Arcadis, Gardiner Theobald, Paragon BC, Stace LLP, Ashe Construction, Breyer Group, Quinn London, Henry Riley, Ridge, Kier London, Avison Young, Mlacolm Hollis and Philip Pank were some of the teams who took part.
The tournament took place at Play Football Romford and was also raising money for the Jermain Defoe Foundation. As last year an excellent BBQ was put on by local company Conti Catering. Mckagans provided sports massage to those players who pulled a muscle or two in the heat of the action.
There was also the introduction of a penalty shoot out competition to run alongside the tournament.
The group stages involved 8 groups of five with the top two teams from each group going into the knockout stages of the Surveyors Cup. Teams finishing in thirds and fourth places went into a plate tournament.
After the group stages the penalty shoot out took place with local team Grays Athletic providing their reserve goalkeeper to go between the sticks. The format was sudden death with Fairhurst Consulting and Gillespies reaching the finals.
The tournament was won by Kier London beating Arcadis 6-1 in a comprehensive victory
Avison Young beat Malcolm Hollis 3-1 to take the plate trophy

Next year will see the competition going to the Euro Surveyors Cup and Downwell are hopeful of running a womens 7 a side tournament to run alongside the main tournament.
