Small charity awareness video feat. young Dravet family makes final of the Charity Film Awards 2019

Dravet Syndrome UK shine a light on living with rare and catastrophic condition - www.dravet.org.uk

After careful consideration by judges our video ‘My Dravet Story - Paige’ has been selected as a Finalist in its turnover category for the Charity Film Awards 2019.

To reach the finals, the video secured public votes as well as the judges’ votes, so it is a great achievement.

The aim of this film was to show the daily reality of living with Dravet Syndrome through the eyes of Samantha Slocombe and her young daughter, Paige, who has Dravet Syndrome.

Produced by Red Goat Productions for Dravet Syndrome UK, the video was launched at the charity’s 10-year anniversary fundraising dinner held at The Ned, London in March 2018. It was later shown at the International Dravet Conference 2018.

Charity Chair, Galia Wilson, spoke about the video and its nomination for the Charity Film Awards:

"Our video story, that features Samantha Slocombe and her young family, was originally conceived as an awareness piece for our 10-year anniversary fundraising dinner. Samantha was amazing in agreeing to open up her world to Red Goat Productions and allowing access to her family to help us shine a light on this life-changing rare condition.

The video was a huge success on the night and helped the charity to engage a new corporate audience, playing a major role in helping us to raise almost £75,000 on the night.

We were absolutely blown away with the response!

Never did we ever think the video would be nominated for an award, but we are so very pleased that is has reached the finals of the Charity Film Awards, helping us to raise even more awareness and to give Samantha and her family the recognition they truly deserve in helping us share a unique perspective of what life is like living with Dravet Syndrome.”

What Happens Next?

Public voting opened via our Charity Film Awards page at 12pm on Monday 4th March 2019 and remains open until the day of the Awards Ceremony on Friday April 26th 2019.

The ‘People’s Choice Award’ award can also be won by any finalist in any of the turnover categories. The People’s Choice Award will go to the Finalist who receives the most votes.

The Awards Gala Evening will take place at 7pm on Friday April 26th 2019 at etc.venues 133 Houndsditch, London.

We are seeking as much public support and exposure for the video as possible to help us raise much-needed awareness of this catastrophic condition and increase our votes as a finalist - the video is available to view and is open for votes on The Charity Film Awards website:

About Dravet Syndrome UK

Dravet Syndrome UK is an independent UK charity dedicated to improving the lives of those affected by Dravet syndrome through support, education and medical research. The charity was founded in October 2008 by parents desperately seeking support and information about treatments and research, all of which was sadly lacking in the UK at that time. Since then the charity has established a board of Trustees and a Professional Advisory Board with membership rising from just thirty families to almost five hundred.
