Introducing the cash cuff ® – wearable payment clothing
DressCode Shirts was launched in September 2018 by Andy Boothman. The Cambridge based designer has created a series of high quality shirts inspired by the digital world. The current designs feature cursors, binary code, pixels, glitches and other coding icons.
This evening DressCode will reveal the next step in their journey, featuring wearable tech that is built into the fabric of the shirts.
The cash cuff ®
Imagine being able to pay for your coffee, lunch or snack with the clothes that you’re wearing. No need for your phone, wallet or any other device. The contactless payment module within the shirt is controlled via an online app. This simple user interface allows people to allocate specific amounts of money to the virtual credit card, they can then monitor the usage and switch the chip on/off at will.
Tonight DressCode will make the first contactless purchase via clothing as Andy demonstrates the system to the tech community of Cambridge. Online retail product with the ‘cash cuff’ function is anticipated to be available late Summer 2019. DressCode also offers corporate solutions within the B2B sphere, where shirts can be designed specifically to reflect a brands values and aspirations. This really connects people and expresses interest in ways previously un-imaginable using enclothed cognition to empower people. The ‘cash cuff’ will also be available to businesses with advanced control and access options planned for the future.
Applications
The ‘Cash cuff ®’ shirts can be used in many ways, here are a few examples:-
• Business travel – replacing credit cards/phones and reducing the risk of theft
• Daily commute – on the tube, bus or rail services to pay for your travel
• Corporate site services – such as coffee shops and other food and drink outlets, no need to carry your wallet with you, your cash will always be on hand in your shirt
• Nights out and events – leave your wallet at home, pay for anything (up to the value of £30) with your shirt
Security
The technology is easily switched off via the online app, and for extra peace of mind, the cash cuff chip can be removed if required.
