DWP Digital hackathon to help jobseekers find work

DWP Digital is hosting a virtual hackathon to explore how technology and innovation can help jobseekers find and access employment following COVID-19. This event is being held in partnership with lead sponsors MongoDB and others including IBM, Opencast, Kong, Scott Logic and Red Hat.

‘Hack2Work’ is taking place from 6 to 8 July inviting digital tech specialists to hack the problem, generate ideas and co-develop a solution.

If you’re a designer, developer, project manager, user researcher, or a digital enthusiast interested in tech for good, register to Hack2Work today https://www.eventbooking.uk.com/DWPDigitalHack2Work/index.php.

Nick Ophoff, Account Director for Government at MongoDB, lead hack sponsor, said: “People enjoy the opportunity to apply the latest tech to help the UK’s most vulnerable populations. DWP is really on the front line of that, even more so since the onset of COVID-19. And MongoDB has had the privilege of supporting that mission.”

Jobcentre staff, digital tech specialists and Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) colleagues will be on-hand to share insights and identify gaps to inspire attendees.

There will be sponsor goody bags for everyone taking part and exciting evening entertainment including a virtual Crystal Maze event and an interactive magic show. Plus, there’ll be prizes for the best solutions.

Jacqui Leggetter, Head of Integration at DWP Digital, said: “COVID-19 has had a major impact on the UK jobs market. Almost two thirds of people who lost their jobs are under the age of 25.

This is our fifth hackathon – the first online – and the creativity displayed at previous events has been inspiring. They’re a great way of bringing fresh thinking and diversity to some of the country’s most pressing digital challenges.”

Solutions and code created on the day will be published under an open source licence – and any promising ideas could be taken forward by DWP Digital.
