Global Education Recovery Summit

Harwood Education launched an historical 'Recovery Curriculum Summit', featuring a Director of Education and Children from a leading London Borough, Headteachers, teachers and educational experts from all over the world. The speakers explore the educational policy and practices involved in the assessment and recovery of a new phenomenon coined "Covid Lost Learning"; how to navigate the emotional repair work demanded by the Covid-19 pandemic, the effects of lock-down experiences and preparation for future resilience. Participants have drawn upon the recent work of their own schools and educational institutions and are sharing experiences about what works, what doesn't and where they want to go from here. The very first entries to the summit can be accessed via the following link -

Hosted by Melanie Harwood and Denise Meissner, Founders of Harwood Education.

Highly experienced education specialists, including Peter Watt, previously from the NSPCC, to ordinary primary school teachers just doing their very best to make their schools safe, "using plastic cones and sticky tape!" says Fiona Cowan, Headteacher with more than 20 years experience and one of the esteemed speakers. "They are all speaking about the one issue on everybody’s lips: how can education recover from COVID-19?!"

Melanie Harwood, of Harwood Education says this of the summit, “It is exciting, as teachers from places as diverse as Brazil and Ethiopia are now ringing up, asking to contribute and join the debate. Many of them are also very worried about climate change. We have been forced to now convert this into a “Rolling Summit”, to try to include as many extra participants as we possibly can from all over the world. Each one is a story in itself.

Denise Meissner, Occupational Therapist and Autism Specialist says, "It is admirable, as educators are now just organising themselves, reaching out to each other in solidarity and for mutual inspiration, where governments have (quite understandably) become confused. It is especially fascinating to learn about the huge amount of work that schools have been doing already to help children throughout the pandemic – with, for example, teachers dropping by with food parcels and calm advice whilst social workers were barred from working or shielding themselves indoors, whilst there were vulnerable children and families suddenly out there on their own with nobody to turn to for assistance.”

The first round of talks have been recorded into a podcast that is already fast being shared amongst teachers and Headteachers globally.
