Henry Mintzberg To Deliver Global Message of Importance on World Values Day 20 October 2022

Henry Mintzberg, the world leading expert on management and strategy, will discuss his big idea for Rebalancing Society, leading a discussion on why values are essential to reaching net zero, and where companies can play a vital role, this World Values Day, 20th October 2022.

Henry Mintzberg will present the opening session of the Conversational Leadership: World Values Day Event.

Henry Mintzberg is the Cleghorn Professor of Management Studies at the Desautels Faculty of Management of McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada where he has been teaching since 1968. He is the author of twenty best selling books, his management articles number over one hundred and fifty, and he is recognized in the Web of Science list of “the world’s most cited and influential researchers” with approximately 4,000 citations.

In a recent article in the Harvard Business Review, Rebuilding Companies as Communities, Henry talks about a concept called communityship and, on World Values Day, will lead a discussion on why values are essential to reaching net zero, and where companies can play a vital role to avert the climate crisis:

a. We will make no headway with our problems of weather, wealth, and weapons until we rebalance our societies.

b. Healthy societies balance respected governments with responsible businesses and robust communities.

c. Rebalancing will have to be propelled by communityship before leadership, in the form of grounded initiatives that consolidate into global reformation.

David Gurteen, Knowledge Cafe host, says, “I am delighted that Henry Mintzberg is joining this World Values Day Café to stimulate the conversation on the fascinating concept of communityship - a term he coined some years ago.

In a webinar, a speaker talks at an audience, while in a Knowledge Café, participants converse with each other. It is a simple idea, but until you have experienced it, you won't understand how powerful it can be in connecting people, sharing experiences, and generating new ideas."

----------------

World Values Day is an annual campaign to increase the awareness and practice of values around the world. In a world that can feel increasingly divided, values help unite us. They are the glue holding together our communities and wider society. The campaign has been running since 2016 and reaches around 45 million people around the world each year. This year we celebrate it on 20th October and the theme is Values for Community, so it is the perfect day for Communityship around the world.
