SME News Announces Northern Enterprise Award Winners
Following a successful first year in business, Elite Marketing & Communications based in Queensbury, West Yorkshire has picked up a prestigious northern business award in recognition of business owner Gemma Dunn’s achievements in her inaugural year running the company.
On the 21st December SME News announced that Elite Marketing & Communications had scooped the award for ‘Most Innovative Agency 2021’ at the Northern Enterprise Awards.
Running for a number of years, the SME News Northern Enterprise Awards are designed to represent innovative, driven and pioneering businesses and individuals, based in the North of England. The pandemic has hindered many businesses and continues to do so, however business sectors in Northern England have displayed a solid sense of resilience and have continued to go from strength to strength - including Elite, which launched in December 2020.
Headed up by Gemma Dunn, Elite was formed following a successful twenty year career working in Further Education. Having held senior marketing roles at Bradford College and Leeds City College, Gemma used her expertise to pivot into the world of marketing consultancy and has enjoyed working with over thirty-five clients since setting up the company a little over a year ago. Now working with retained clients as well as supporting short-term projects, Gemma offers marketing and communications services to a plethora of businesses including education clients, a market research firm, marketing agencies and clients working in life sciences and pharmaceuticals in the UK, USA and Europe.
Talking about the award win, Gemma said: “I’ve had an incredible first year in business. I can’t quite believe that after just twelve months establishing the company I am celebrating an award win! It’s a bit surreal to be honest.”
Reflecting on taking the plunge to leave full time employment to set-up Elite, Gemma says: “I’ve always wanted to be my own boss and to try running a business - it was an itch that I needed to scratch and I knew if I left it much later in life I wouldn’t have the bottle to see it through. I’m so glad I took the leap of faith. I have been supported by so many people - including the team at Ad:Venture who offer start-up mentoring and coaching, webinars and training to fledgling companies in the Leeds City Region. I must also thank the SAM Network for welcoming me to business networking and for the members unwavering support and encouragement. It’s important to surround yourself with likeminded, down to earth business people who have lived experience of setting up and running a company - they are the best people to offer guidance and advice and to fill in all the business blanks I didn’t know I had. They are also some of the kindest and laughter filled Yorkshire folk I have ever met!”
The Northern Enterprise awards businesses and professional individuals across a range of industries, from manufacturing and construction to design and telecommunications and retail. The awards aim to acknowledge and celebrate those who have demonstrated a strong work ethic and have established a firm connection with their clients and customers.
