Future ‘Works’ with Bespoke Prop Makers, Ready for Prestigious London Show
So… Visualise, the North Yorkshire-based bespoke prop hire company, has been working alongside young adults at Futureworks NY preparing for a prestigious London show.
Young adults aged fourteen years and above have been hard at work re-purposing plastic bottles into fun bubble shapes ready for the So … Visualise stand at the Visual Merchandising and Display Show, taking place in London in April.
Lisa Borrie, owner of So… Visualise, explained: “The main reason for working alongside the students was to give them the chance to get involved in a professional creative brief and to highlight that living in the Scarborough area offers them great opportunities alongside beautiful seaside scenery.”
Futureworks NY, which is based at The Street, William Street Coach Park in Scarborough, formed the focal point of this community project.
Lisa continued: “We had two sessions a week during which we worked as a team and supported one another through the creative process.”
Futureworks NY provides personalised support and guidance for people looking to improve their lives including young adults still at school and those aged sixteen and above. The subjects include life skills and formal support for academic subjects including English and Mathematics.
Lisa continued: “We put out a message on social media for certain types of plastic bottle, which we re-purposed into bubble shapes ready for the show later this spring. So … Visualise has a very successful show last year and we were keen to include the community in our preparations for the 2019 event.
“We have found our collaboration alongside Futureworks NY to be very rewarding and hopefully this will encourage other companies to give back and work with the local community.”
Sarah Thornton, Director of Futureworks NY, said: “Our learners enjoyed being part of this creative project and recycling plastic bottles which they would normally just see as rubbish. Meeting Lisa, who is from our local area, has inspired our young people and made them see a bigger picture of what goes on beyond Scarborough! They are also looking forward to seeing the end result of the project.”
Lisa hopes to collaborate with Futureworks on another project soon
