Oxford Business in line for Creative Industries Entrepreneur of the Year Award recognising captivating photography for families.

Oxford’s own Family Memento has been shortlisted from over 2,600 applications for the Creative Industries Entrepreneur of the Year Award category in the Regional finals of the Great British Entrepreneur Awards. Their success recognises the need for family photography at an affordable price, something Aina Gomez, founder of Family Memento, strongly advocates for with her business.

Founded in 2013, the Great British Entrepreneur Awards acknowledges the hard work and inspiring stories of entrepreneurs and businesses in the United Kingdom. Aina’s business story fits in perfectly with this criteria; after her partner passed away when their daughter was only 7 months old, she realised they did not have any photos together other than a blurry phone picture and her chance was lost forever. She has since been driven by the desire not to let this happen to other families.

The Awards have celebrated some outstanding entrepreneurs who have gone on to become household names. Previous winners include the founders of BrewDog, Tangle Teezer, The LAD Bible, Clearscore & The Cambridge Satchel Company.

Judges of the awards include Hayley Parsons, who founded Go Compare, Cath Kidston, Lord Bilimoria of Cobra Beer and Kanya King, the founder of the MOBO awards.

This year, with face to face events challenging, the regional heats will be celebrated online on September 23rd.

Aina had this to say about being a finalist: “This nomination could not have come at a better time. COVID-19 forced my business to stop almost completely. While I am now back in business, the situation has forced me to rethink how I do everything and most importantly, why I do what I do. If I won, it would mean that someone is recognising my efforts and would mean a complete boost of confidence in difficult times.”

Alex Hughes, CEO of Shift Momentum, a platform that supports and educates SMEs had this to say about Aina “I have been privileged to witness Aina’s business grow from its early stages and to see her response in times of crisis. I truly believe she deserves any nomination or award that comes her way. The story behind why she founded Family Memento is truly inspiring and the magical mixture of creativity and business acumen she possesses lleads me to believe that great things are coming Family Memento’s way. We will be rooting for her to win and see her being backed by such an amazing institution as the Great British Entrepreneur Awards.”
