New Chamber Network Will Boost Green Collaboration in Greater Manchester

Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce is helping businesses play their part in supporting the environment with the launch of the Business Green Scene network.

The aim of the new network is to connect businesses with an interest in environmental sustainability so they can work together. Those who join will also act as the collective voice of sustainable business for the region, feeding back on the key green issues to central government.

Alex Booth, SME Support, Greater Manchester Chamber, came up with the idea for the Business Green Scene after realising local businesses needed a network focused on the environment.

He said: “I’m passionate about this issue and I could see there was a real demand for this sort of network in Greater Manchester. At any environmental sustainability business event, you can guarantee the speakers will talk about the need for more collaboration across sectors and industry. Business Green Scene will provide a platform for that collaboration.

“The network will be a place where like-minded employees and business owners can meet and motivate each other into action, then connect with local experts who will help guide them on their journey.”

The benefits of joining the Business Green Scene include:

• Connecting to an environmental sustainability network which is unique and bespoke to Greater Manchester’s business landscape

• Free access to regular Business Green Scene events

• Free "Bee More Green" energy health check from Chamber partner, Enexus

• Funded sustainability training for SMEs

• Keeping up-to-date with Greater Manchester’s green journey through a regular Green Scene e-newsletter

Alex added: “Organisations of any size and from any sector can join the network, providing they have a presence in Greater Manchester. Any employee from a director to an apprentice can sign-up. This is a unique opportunity to get involved with a network right from the start and to kick-start or progress your business’ positive impact on our local environment.”

Recognised as a leader in its field, Greater Manchester Chamber’s reputation in government circles has grown locally and nationally. At the heart of the area of greatest economic intensity outside London and the South East, the Chamber is the primary body for business support, policy, representation and networking. The Chamber is an independent, not-for-profit private company and its aim is to support businesses and help create the best climate for the region to prosper. This is achieved by ensuring that those taking decisions on key issues such as transport, taxation and business regulation hear the voice of our members. The representation of our members’ views is central to the work of the policy team at the Chamber; these views are gathered in a range of ways including our local councils, policy committees, sector councils, the main Chamber council, focus groups, meetings with politicians and consultations. The Chamber also offers a range of networking forums across Greater Manchester, free as part of membership, plus a variety of other events and services designed to benefit specific sectors or individuals and help businesses to grow.
