Inform, protect and support
A new web-based service aims to help consumers avoid expensive mistakes when they venture into the rapidly evolving home energy market or consider better home security.
HelpWith gives consumers advice and guidance on complex issues such as the installation of heat pumps, solar panels and alternatives to carbon-heavy gas boilers which will be banned in new-build homes from 2025.
Too often, consumers are confused by conflicting advice or fail to do sufficient research and choose the wrong solutions, leaving them with, at best, a less effective outcome or, at worst, one that is so inappropriate that it has to be replaced, often at the consumer's expense.
HelpWith, a UK start-up, is designed to inform, protect and support the UK public when purchasing technology for their homes, small companies, and clubs.
It will offer impartial guidance on meeting net-zero carbon emissions for their homes, starting from first principles such as an understanding of the concept of net-zero.
Derek Bier, founder and CEO of HelpWith, said: “We don’t care what you buy, from whom, just the best technology that suits your needs and value for money. Domestic consumers do not get the respect they deserve. There has got to be a better way to be treated.”
HelpWith will advise the consumer on the latest technologies such as heat pumps, solar, hydrogen boilers, and heat networks, helping avoid expensive mistakes while maximising efficiency from their new energy system. Conversely, we will tell them if it will not reflect value for money or fails to deliver their needs.
In close consultation with the client, Helpwith will
• ensure consumers comply with the Government’s climate change regulations which will ban the installation of gas boilers in new homes after 2025.
• help them subscribe to the Green Homes Grant, worth up to £10,000.
• ensure they obtain the correct certification (Microgeneration Certificate Scheme for solar installations and the familiar Energy Performance Certificate).
• introduce and educate concerning the relevant Government grants.
• help with choosing the best manufacturer and accredited installer by discussing and mutually generating a definition of requirements.
• obtain quotations using this document.
• help with selecting the installer.
• manage the process.
• finally, ensure the consumer receives the best maintenance contract at a fair price.
“We'll hold your hand, all the way," Bier says. HelpWith is a unique approach based on a fee-based technical service. It also supports consumers wanting to improve their home security and smart lighting solutions.
HelpWith is supported by LoCase (Lower Carbon in the South East), an EU funded scheme set up to support businesses by promoting low carbon technologies: “One of the best projects we've seen.”
