Stately home to provide magnificent backdrop as classic children's tale is brought to life

THE award-winning grounds of one of the North West’s finest stately homes is set to provide a magical backdrop as a classic children’s tale is brought to life.

The Secret Garden will be staged in the surrounds of the magnificent Grade II-listed Holker Hall, near Grange-over-Sands, on Sunday August 3.

This year’s annual outdoor theatre performance will unfold in Pagan’s Grove - a popular feature set near to the hall’s formal gardens.

Holker Hall manager Heather Creasey said the atmospheric surroundings of the 400-year-old property were sure to capture the imagination of all who attend.

“Our annual outdoor theatre experience is always a popular summer event.

“But this year is set to be really special.

“The Secret Garden is a timeless story loved by children and adults alike.

“It couldn’t be staged anywhere more perfect than the grounds here at Holker. The setting will fit perfectly with the story as it unfolds.”

The production, based on the 1911 book by Frances Hodgson Burnett, will be staged by The Storyteller’s Co.

Cast members will lead guests on a journey through the gardens to the grove before the performance gets underway at 6pm.

Families are invited to bring a picnic blanket while younger members of the audience will be invited to soak up the tale of Mary Lennox from within the grove itself.

Heather added: “The Secret Garden is one of the most famous children’s stories of all time and the setting magical.

“This has got all the ingredients of an unforgettable experience and the whole team here at Holker are looking forward to it.”

Tickets for the performance cost £11 for adults and £6 for children, with a family ticket costing £30 for two adults and two under 16s.

They are available from the Holker Hall Food Hall and Gift Shop or can be booked online at www.holker.co.uk or on 015395 58328.
