Taking a load off – Local women lose inches by sitting in a chair
A health and beauty club in Braintree has helped a team of three women lose a total of 31 inches from around their body in only six weeks after taking advice from their local enterprise agency, Ignite Business.
Kelly Snelling, who works as a personal trainer/beauty technician at the family run Top to Toe @ Ladyshapers said after their meeting with Ignite: “We started this challenge to draw attention to the chairs, which are such an underappreciated tool for losing weight. We wanted to show what the chairs could do and the results have been universally amazing.”
The chairs work by providing relaxation and retraining muscles in functional movement patterns.
Margaret, a customer who lost 12 ½ inches from using the chairs in three weeks, said: “Ladyshapers is great, it has changed my life, I feel 20 years younger.”
The chairs are suitable for all ages and are particularly good for people with injuries or conditions such as MS, spondylosis, arthritis, osteoporosis, stroke, and heart attack to name a few. They have also found appeal among the senior community for their ability to improve core muscle strength, flexibility, bone density, circulation, and muscle tone and with new mums as they are good to help get back into shape.
The business, which aims to be different from a normal gym by providing a welcoming friendly place specifically for women to get all of their beauty needs addressed in one friendly setting, was originally opened with just the chairs in February 2008 as a solo venture/feature. It has since grown to include much more.
The founder of the business, Jenny Wharrier, used older similar Shapemaster toning tables at a nearby gym and was so impressed that she decided to open her own business with the latest “easytone” version of the toning chairs with her daughter, Rachel Day and two other friends. The chairs achieve great results in half an hour as opposed to the hour the tables take.
Rachel said: “We did lots of research and attended an intensive three-day training course in Stoke-on-Trent so we were fully qualified in their use. These chairs feel like having a work out in a gym, but you are just sitting down.”
To become a member costs £99 for a 12-week flexi membership and this also entitles the individual to a 25% discount on a range of beauty and other treatments offered by the establishment.
The team’s next challenge will be the 8-week “wobble-less” chair challenge, and their results will be published on their Facebook page, Toptotoe Ladyshapers.
