MSP James Kelly Opens Property Firms New Glasgow Offices

Residents on the south side of Glasgow may have noticed a new name on the High Street in recent months with the arrival of Indigo Square to their flagship Glasgow South office on Holmlea Road.

The name of Indigo Square may be new to residents in the area however, the people behind the company may be more familiar to anyone who has operated in the Glasgow property market over the last few decades, with the two founding directors having over 30 year’s experience in the Scottish property market. Additionally, one of the directors, Mr. Brian Gilmour, will also be a familiar voice to thousands as he is the property guru on the BBC Radio Scotland Kaye Adams programme.

After launching from their city centre base in Blythswood Square, Indigo Square opened up a flagship Glasgow South office in Battlefield in the spring, and MSP James Kelly was on hand recently to formally open the office and to discuss the expansion of a local firm with the recent addition of their North Ayrshire office in Largs.

Indigo Square started as a lettings business, but now offer lettings, sales and are one of the fastest growing factors in the Greater Glasgow area.

When meeting with James Kelly MSP, Brian Gilmour outlined the ethos behind the business "When working for major corporates I started to build a small property portfolio and entrusted that with other letting agents but I never felt they really gave me the service I needed as someone working full time. I was looking for someone that I could hand the keys to and forget about my property, comfortable in with the knowledge that they would spend my money with the prudence as if it were their own and let me get on with my day job. It was that ethos we took into the formation of Indigo Square".

Brian Gilmour has considerable experience in the property market. He started in property in 1989 and spent his later years in a corporate estate agency running the new homes division for Scotland of the biggest estate agency group in Britain, before setting up his own company that owned and managed properties for rent.

After rapidly growing the lettings business, Indigo Square moved into property factoring, and in 18 months have gone from factoring no units to factoring over 300 places. This is a testament to the positive word of mouth advertising that has come through a very hands on sale to property factoring. “The complaint from many owners is that their property factor wouldn't even know where their building is. When we take over the management of a building we inspect the properties on a regular basis, including monthly inside the first six months and quarterly thereafter. We believe that allows us to keep a better handle on any deterioration within the building and keep on top of repairs" he continued “we also don’t believe that property management is a 9-5 job and that’s why our Factoring clients, like our tenants have access to 24-hour manned telephone lines to report faults.”

It is that hands on mentality which has helped Indigo Square grow so rapidly in recent times.

Indigo Square are located on Holmlea Road in Battlefield and on Main Street in Largs.
