Romney House Cat Rescue Charity Awarded Grant from Battersea Dogs & Cats

Bromley charity Romney House Cat Rescue has been awarded a special grant from leading animal welfare charity, Battersea Dogs & Cats Home. The funds granted by Battersea will support Romney House Cat Rescue’s work and enable them to rescue more abandoned cats each year.

The Downe-based charity, which rescues over 400 cats each year, will use the grant to revamp some of its cat houses. They will also have support from Battersea with the overflow of rescue cats they receive.

Silvana Locke, founder of Romney House Cat Rescue, said: “We’re thrilled that Battersea Dog & Cats Home have awarded Romney House funds to revamp some of our cat houses. They are also going to help with the huge number of cats that come our way by taking the overflow to their centre for rehoming. This is great news and we look forward to working with them.”

All cats that are rescued by Romney House are neutered, vaccinated and microchipped before being found a suitable new home. Cats that are unsuitable for re-homing can live freely in the cat sanctuary that forms part of the rescue centre in Downe. Romney House supports cat neutering and encourages people to adopt rescue cats rather than buy them online.

Margaret Hulme, Grants Manager at Battersea added: “We hope that this grant will help make a real difference to the lives of cats and dogs in the community. Battersea helps more than 7,000 dogs and cats each year, at our three centres in London, Berkshire and Kent and beyond. We want to support rescues and shelters in the UK, not only by awarding funding, but also by sharing the experiences and knowledge we have gained as an animal welfare charity that has been rescuing and rehoming animals for 158 years.”

Battersea Grants is a new initiative that aims to support smaller rescues and shelters by offering grants of between £3,000 and £15,000. This money will help organisations continue their great work with dogs and cats across the UK.

With thanks to Richard Kimpton Construction, who are carrying out the improvement works on the cat houses.
