Hard work pays off: Team of degree apprentices celebrate full set of perfect results
A GROUP of hardworking interns are celebrating after securing a full set of perfect results in their end of year exams.
Luke Turner, Catherine Steur, Esther Klijn and Becky Cronin are all en-route to completing Degree Apprenticeships with leading accountancy firm JF Hornby in Ulverston.
They have each earned a first as they continue towards their ambition of becoming fully qualified accountants by 2021.
Paul Hornby, JF Hornby managing director, said he was thrilled with the success of the talented team.
“All of our interns have worked incredibly hard and thoroughly deserve the excellent exam results they gained.
“As well as their studies, they all make a superb contribution to our team. We are very proud of their achievements.”
Luke and Catherine are now in their third year as students on the Degree Apprenticeship Accounting course at the University of Central Lancashire while Esther and Becky have moved into their fourth year.
The course allows them to complete academic qualifications while gaining years of valuable experience in the workplace.
At the end of the five-year internship, they will have secured a degree in accountancy as well as the ACA - the professional qualification of chartered accountants.
Luke Turner, a JF Hornby accounts assistant and part time student, said results day this year had been a cause of celebration for the whole team.
“There was lots of excitement when we found out that we had all gained a first for our end of year results.
“Everyone was really pleased for us, especially as we’ve worked so hard to do well.”
Luke, 20, added: “Studying while we work means there is a lot to do. We go to university one day a week while most other people on the course are there full time.
“But being part of such a supportive team here at Hornby’s is great and has clearly helped reinforce in practice everything we are learning on the course.
“The pressure is now on for us to get another set of firsts next year.”
