Are you the most romantic couple? Pub chain launches pre-Valentine’s day hunt for best proposal story
CHAMPAGNE and a meal to remember await one lucky couple - if the story of their engagement is judged to be the most romantic ever.
Pub chiefs have launched a hunt for the husband and wife, husband and husband or wife and wife with the most touching - or funny - tale of proposal.
They want to hear how the big question was popped as they gear up for February 14 across each of their three Cumbria pubs; The Sun in Ulverston, The Black Cock in Broughton and The Commodore in Grange.
Sam Scott (pictured) is the general manager of The Sun in Ulverston. He said: “January is almost over and love is in the air as we head towards Valentine’s day.
“We know that every couple has a story to tell about how they got engaged - and we want to hear them all; funny, romantic, silly - and maybe those which didn’t quite go to plan.
“Our judges will decide which story is the most romantic, and the winning couple will get a romantic Valentine’s Day dinner on us complete with champagne.”
Couples are now being invited to hit the social media channels for any of Lakeland Inns’ three pubs - or write an old-fashioned love note and send it in the post - with the details of their romantic proposal story.
On February 6 the competition closes and the most romantic couple will be crowned.
Tables are becoming limited in availability at each of the three venues. At The Black Cock and The Commodore, the lights will be dimmed and a romantic soundtrack will accompany the evening as service begins.
And at The Sun in Ulverston, Room 1780 will be transformed into an exclusive live music venue for a small number of couples, with spaces strictly limited.
Kirsty Mackenzie, the managing director of Lakeland Inns, said: “We love Valentine's Day. After the post-Christmas slump in January, it is always lovely to see happy couples out, enjoying themselves and celebrating another year together - and we can’t wait to hear the stories of their engagement.”
