Jamaican High Commission UK and JAMPRO showcase the power of 'doing for self' on April 7th 2022

On April 7, 2022, the Jamaican High Commission UK and Jampro teamed up to host their inaugural "Meet the Buyer" event in London, England.

The goal of the event was to connect Jamaican businesses with UK retailers and the press.

Many notable business owners and representatives were in attendance, including Michelin-trained Chef Aleandro - Founder of Food Fusion who served an array of delicious canapes utilising products from the vendors in the room.

The brands, retailers, and press who attended gave authentic Jamaican business owners the opportunity to network, learn and encourage each other. This event demonstrated the capacity for authentic Jamaican businesses to be successful in the UK market. It also showed that by working together, we can achieve more than what we could alone.

Alongside several brands including award-winning brands, luxury food - Marshall and Brown and Jamaican distributor Mickles, the event was buzzing with excitement.

“The UK food retail market has seen a genuine desire by consumers, to have access to authentic Caribbean foods, and this event has brought together some of the most creative, innovative, and authentic products from Jamaica. The buyers who attended were excited and truly engaged and JAMPRO and the Jamaican High Commission UK have done a wonderful job in promoting the very best of Jamaica,” says Dr Carlton Brown, founder of Marshall and Brown

Nicole Bowen, founder of Mickles stated;

"For me, the Meet the Buyers event was a wonderful and extremely encouraging experience. Here I am an authentic Caribbean brand amongst an array of other successful and growing authentic brands from Jamaica - in the Jamaican High Commission. The Jamaican High Commission and Jampro hosted an innovative event for authentic Jamaican brands so that both retailers and consumers can access and discover brands that originate from and support the Jamaican economy. I was proud to be part of this event and a part of its legacy"

About Marshall and Brown London

The inspiration behind Marshall and Brown came from Dr Carlton Brown’s mother, who is 97, and his mother-in-law. The company is named after these two wonderful matriarchs – Olive Brown and Eugenia Marshall – who were both born on the beautiful island of Jamaica. They were both amazing cooks and on Sundays, one of their family traditions was to have a dish that had been marinated or seasoned with Jerk seasoning.
