Turnover increase of 100%+, a new office and award nominations for Meteoric on its second birthday

Meteoric growth of the virtual marketing team

Ripon-based marketing agency, Meteoric, is celebrating its second birthday with a new office, turnover increase of over 100%, a nomination in the IoD awards as well as a digital marketing executive to grow the business.

Virtual marketing team

Former PwC marketing director, Angela Brown, launched Meteoric in September 2018 to help B2B businesses across the region stand out from the crowd. Meteoric acts as a virtual marketing team, providing strategic and tactical, roll-up-sleeves marketing support to SME companies that are looking to grow but who don’t have the in-house resource to get moving.

Aiming for further growth this year, Meteoric plans to grow its team, while continuing to work with a network of local, trusted suppliers to bring the right skills, experience and resource at the right time (and the right price) for clients.

Starting from scratch, Angela has built her client base across the professional services sector including supply chain and logistic company Hatmill, Shipley-based global technology firm Consult Red, and restructuring and advisory firm PKF Geoffrey Martin.

Covid – a challenge and an opportunity

During the lockdown, when many companies were furloughing staff, pulling graduate schemes and laying off marketeers, Angela took the brave decision to invest in new talent and recruited Charlotte Maddison, a newly qualified graduate in the position of marketing executive to drive digital growth. She’s also recruited Katy Turner from PwC as a retained consultant to drive PR. Last month, Meteoric moved to a new office in Ripon to create a permanent base for the business.

Angela Brown, Founder of Meteoric, said:

“I’m extremely proud of the rapid growth of Meteoric over the last year and the fantastic calibre and scale of our new client wins. I’ve got ambitious growth plans; there are so many fast-growing exciting businesses in the region with untapped talent and we want to help them achieve their potential and shout about their success.

While Covid has challenged our business, it’s also created opportunities for growth; gone are the days that you need to be a large agency in the City centre. Covid has radically altered mindsets; for leaders of many SMEs the thought of working with a virtual team doesn’t seem daunting anymore. In fact, they appreciate the breadth of experience and flexibility of working with an agency like ours. In this new virtual world, it means that small agencies like Meteoric based outsides cities can compete with much larger rivals.”

Growth highlights

Back in April 2019, Angela won a place on Natwest’s Accelerator programme, which really was a turning point for her and the business. In the last year, she’s doubled turnover and been shortlisted for ‘Young’ Business of the Year for the prestigious Institute of Directors’ Yorkshire and North East awards. She also partnered with the PwC Scale programme to deliver marketing training to their start-up cohorts.

Experienced B2B

Angela has more than 20 years international experience of business-to-business marketing in professional and financial services working in house at PwC in Leeds, London and Dubai and Merrill Lynch in New York, as well as agency side at ZPR.

As someone that raised a family and worked flexibly throughout her career, Angela champions and provides opportunities for people to work in a more flexible environment that allows people to bring their whole self to work.

Charity support

Doing good business is not just about financial success. From this year Angela has partnered with Tempus Novo, a Yorkshire charity helping ex-offenders to find employment, to provide some pro-bono PR and marketing support.

Angela continues:

“Given Meteoric now has a solid base of clients, it’s time to increase the in-house team in order to grow our client base. The recruitment of a digital marketing executive demonstrates my desire to grow the business.

I’m thrilled to be shortlisted in the IoD awards. To be recognised for our achievements is the icing on the cake of a successful first few years in business.”
