Children's author debuts book to teach diversity and inclusion
Georgina George has released her debut book, set to introduce children to topics of same-sex relationships and gender identities.
Aimed at children between the ages of 4-7 years, the brightly-coloured book follows the journey of Mia, a manatee who loves to explore and meet new friends along the way.
The creatures are used as a tool to teach children diversity in an easy-to-understand way. On her journey, Mia meets a pregnant male seahorse, two female co-parenting albatrosses, and a clownfish who uses they/them pronouns.
The features are based on nature facts, with birth-giving male seahorses, albatrosses engaging in same-sex relationships, and clownfish able to change gender. Importantly, Mia believes the things that make us different are beautiful, helping children see nonconformity in a positive light.
Georgina George, author of Mia the Manatee, said: “I hope that parents and children alike will enjoy reading it together and celebrating the diversity of the characters and the message of difference being beautiful.”
