Small start-up shortlisted for a prestigious award after raising over £22,000 for charity during COVID-19 pandemic

The start-up company One Million Steps has been shortlisted in the prestigious Great British Entrepreneurs Award for their fundraising efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic. The group raised over £22,000 for charities through their app as users walked 96,000 miles, which is the equivalent of four trips around the planet.

In partnership with Starling Bank, the Great British Entrepreneurs Awards champions enterprising companies, supporting them through their alumni community, so they continue to thrive. Launched in 2012, it has a rich history of notable winners, including companies like The Cambridge Satchel Company and BrewDog.

As advocates of corporate social responsibility, One Million Steps seeks to promote the health and wellbeing of their members, advocating the mental health benefits of walking. The company allowed charities and businesses to onboard for free during the summer, kickstarting their fundraising during the COVID-19 pandemic. This small start-up achieved great things in a time of difficulty for many.

Commenting on their success, founder and CEO of One Million Steps, Ranjit Ghoshal, stated:

"Our vision has always been to create a level playing field so the small community group and greengrocer have the same powerful tools as the largest corporate and charity groups, to launch challenges in collaboration and support communities. We launched our #HelpOurCharities campaign to do just that. We may be a start-up, but we are so pleased with the results we are doing it again!"

One Million Steps celebrates their achievement ahead of their next virtual event beginning 1st October 2020. This #HelpOurCharities campaign hopes to build on the company's previous success, continuing their COVID-secure charity event ideas for the benefit of a sector struggling with fundraising post-lockdown.
