Montpellier Lodge celebrates 1st year

Montpellier Lodge is celebrating one year in business with a tasty, festive offering!

Montpellier Lodge is the fine dining contemporary restaurant and bar set in the corner of Montpellier pleasure gardens in the heart of Montpellier, Cheltenham. The Lodge itself was the former park-keepers house and was built on the land originally known as Trafalgar Field. Montpellier Lodge opened on 15 December 2015 following extensive renovation and addition of the glazed conservatory and courtyard.

The restaurant offers an extensive A La Carte menu which always carries a ‘Catch of the Day’ dish. This daily ‘catch of the day’ is supplied by Cirencester-based M & J Seafood – specialists for over 35 years in providing high-quality, fresh stock from British fishermen. To celebrate the Lodge’s one-year achievement, Kevin Harris, Head Chef, has chosen the exceptional value Slipper Lobster, supplied by M & J Seafood, as his dish of the month. The lobster will be accompanied with crushed potato salad, salsa Verde and caviar, priced at £20pp. A separate ‘catch of the day’ will also be available.

Barry Chandler of James Barry Accountants and owner of Montpellier Lodge comments, “It’s been quite a year and we are delighted with the results. Our aim is to offer unique dining in a friendly, welcoming setting. The menu always offers fresh, local British ingredients and Chef adds his French cuisine flair. Our team are trained to be attentive and informative and the wine list is chosen to match the seasonal monthly menus.”

Montpellier Lodge has three private rooms for hire, making it a perfect setting for family celebrations, parties and events. The next wedding celebration coincides with the one year celebration on 17 December and will be hosted in the Conservatory, overlooking the Montpellier Gardens. Continuing the hat-trick of festivities the annual Montpellier Gardens ‘Carols in the Park’ event (5 to 7 pm) will also coincide on the 17 December with mulled wine and cider celebrations continuing at Montpellier Lodge, from 7.00 pm onwards.

Barry continues, “The restaurant, with its unique setting, lends itself well to holding events, parties and celebrations. We will be holding a series of Montpellier Lodge garden events over 2017 with the first, a Wine Tasting evening, planned for early in 2017.”

A full Christmas and New Year Eve’s A La Carte menu is now available. To celebrate the New Year, Montpellier Lodge is launching the Trafalgar Breakfast menu after the original site name that includes a full English breakfast, choice of eggs on sourdough toast or smoked streaky bacon sandwich! Note to Editor:

Development of Montpellier Gardens began in the early 19th Century by Henry Thomson to create Montpellier Spa. The Lodge itself was the former park-keepers house and was built on the land originally known as Trafalgar Field Although open to the public on payment of an admission fee the gardens were mainly frequented by those taking the waters. The change in the public ownership in the late 19th Century saw the pleasure gardens become a place of public amusement, recreation and resort. The Bandstand was constructed in 1864. Extensive restoration of the gardens took place in 2006 ensuring Montpellier Gardens continues to play an important part in the lives of residents and visitors alike well into the 21st Century. Montpellier Lodge opened on 15 December 2015 following extensive renovation and addition of the glazed conservatory and courtyard.

About Montpellier Lodge

Montpellier Lodge is set in the corner of Montpellier Gardens – traditionally known as the pleasure gardens. Whilst it is a central location the Lodge itself, is situated to the edge of the hub of restaurants/bars/social gatherings. Whilst stating the location is a central one is still critical, so is a drive to visit the restaurant for other reasons: the quality of the menu, celebrity status, key Cheltenham sporting, food, music, literature and art festivals, event status, private events – business and family and friends.
