Morgan Jones Achieves Gangmasters Licence

[Broadstairs, Kent, 28/11/2019] – Morgan Jones Recruitment Consultants in Broadstairs Kent have just received their Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority (GLAA) Licence, enabling them to provide workers to several important agricultural and produce based industries.

With agriculture being a huge source of income across the verdant fields of Kent, and Thanet being home to the largest greenhouse complex in the UK, this opens up the possibility of employment to hundreds, if not thousands of people.

The GLAA was established in the aftermath of the 2004 Morecambe Bay cockling disaster, where at least 21 Chinese illegal immigrant labourers were drowned by an incoming tide after picking cockles off the Lancashire coast. The role of the GLAA is to protect vulnerable workers from exploitation.

Through the intelligence gathered from inspections, the public, industry and other government departments, they have the power and authority to launch investigations of worker exploitation and illegal activity such as human trafficking, forced labour and illegal labour provision.

Operating throughout the UK they work in tandem with the police, the National Crime Agency and other government law enforcement agencies to target, dismantle and disrupt serious and organised crime across the UK.

Their licensing scheme regulates businesses who provide workers to the fresh produce supply chain and horticulture industry, to make sure they meet the employment standards required by law.
