Thinking of last-minute summer holiday ideas with the kids? We’ve got you covered

With heatwaves aplenty, it’s fair to say we’re in the thick of the summer weather. “With such great weather this August, Brits have lots of ways to spend the holidays” says Rebecca Henwood, Marketing Manager at the UK’s leading childcare insurance specialist, Morton Michel. “Whether you like day trips, holidays, or summer activities, there’s plenty of ways to spend time with your loved ones and keep them boredom free this time of year” adds Henwood. While we all love to complain about some much-needed air conditioning infrastructure, we’ve created a list of ideas to keep everyone happy this summer.

Family days out

There are many great locations around the UK for tried and tested family fun. Theme parks such as Alton Towers and Thorpe Park come alive in the summer holidays. Perfect for the thrill seekers!

Holidays

If you’re looking to fit in a big trip before schools are back, what better way to do it than with a coastal holiday. With such great weather this August you can save on flight tickets and visit any number of UK coastal destinations. We’d recommend Cornwall, Devon, and Pembrokeshire for some picturesque beaches, surfing, and restaurants (although there are many beautiful coastal areas across Britain).

Summer activities

Having fun this summer doesn’t just mean big days out, home activities can be just as fun. Arts and crafts are a nice way to get your kids in the garden and off their gadgets. Flower mosaics and sunflower bowls are some good starting ideas for inspiration.

Cooking and baking are also fun and cost effective ways to teach your children new skills. Snacks like muffins are safe and easy to make for all ages (plus they’re a nice option to take out on day trips). On especially hot days, making frozen yogurt can keep everyone cool (and away from the ice cream).

“There’s lots of ways to spend the holidays and fun doesn’t have to be limited by budgets. So whatever activities your family enjoy, make sure everyone’s getting in the sun and making the most of it” concludes Henwood.
