Malwarebytes, Bitdefender and Symantec achieve Level 1 Certification in MRG Effitas Q2 360° Antivirus Assessment
Independent test lab, MRG Effitas, has released its 360° Q2 Antivirus Efficacy and Asessment report rating nine leading enterprise antivirus products, with Malwarebytes, Bitdefender, and Symantec achieving the highest Level 1 Certification.
"With the ever-increasing threat of cyber attacks and ransomware, it's important to know how effective your antivirus really is and our independent tests are considered some of the most rigorous," said MRG Effitas CEO, Chris Pickard. "Based on real-world scenarios and using the freshest malware, it is not easy to attain a Level 1 Certification in our tests, but Malwarebytes, Bitdefender, and Symantec have achieved it."
Conducted to AMTSO (Anti Malware Testing Standards Organisation) standards, the 360° Antivirus Efficacy Assessment tests the capabilities of the participating security applications against a full spectrum of attack vectors.
In-The-Wild assessment, trojans, backdoors, spyware, financial malware, ransomware, and “other” malicious applications are all used, including file-based attacks, file-less cases, exploitation techniques, live botnets, and simulators.
"We also evaluate the practical accuracy of the AV products, exposing them to Potentially Unwanted Applications and clean files, as well as measuring the footprint each security software has on a computer’s performance," said Chris.
MRG Effitas supplies participating vendors with detailed feedback on the samples missed as part of the testing and dispute process, supporting the vendors to improve the efficacy and quality assurance of their products.
