Celebrating International Country Music Day on Friday 17th September

This Friday, 17th September, is International Country Music Day, a worldwide celebration of the rich history, heritage and impact of country music on our culture, created in 2003 to bring together artists, songwriters and fans all over the world.

And it’s no longer a genre only associated with America. The last UK C2C festival, Europe’s biggest country music festival, attracted 80,000 fans to venues in London, Glasgow and Dublin. Tickets for the 2022 event, the first since 2019, go on sale on Friday, expecting to attract legions of young fans eager to enjoy a music genre that is irrefutably cool again.

Another country festival, The Long Road, held in the grounds of Stanford Hall in Lutterworth, will host more than 40 artists over 3 days next August after two postponed years.

And with artists like Ed Sheeran and Adele declaring how influential country music has been on shaping their own song-writing, perhaps it’s time to reassess the impact of the genre, with its melancholy ballads and stories of love and loss.

Ahead of International Country Music Day, leading musical instrument insurer musicGuard looks at five of the biggest events in the history of country music.
